Car imports to NZ increased significantly in 2017

According to an article by NZ's automotive industry magazine "autotalk" (January 8, 2018)

In 2017, the number of cars imported from all over the world in NZ totaled 286,562 units (a year-on-year increase of 21,000 units) in total for new and used cars.

The breakdown is that used cars are "171, 543 vehicles", and new cars "115,019 vehicles" are significantly higher.

However, the total import volume in December has declined by 4,000 units since November, so there seems to be possibility that stock adjustment has started.

Both new and second-hand cars, as before, imports from Japan account for the largest weight.
